Smart Philanthropy 100 day timetable

Day 1: Philanthropic Values, Interests, and Issues meeting:

  • Discussion of donor’s values and interests
  • Description of UF CAIRES Smart Philanthropy Program

 
Day 7: Goals Framework submitted to donor for review

  • After confirming Goals Framework, donor contributes 2/3 costs ($5500) of developing the Strategic Philanthropy Report, with UF CAIRES paying for 1/3 costs (in kind)

 
Day 21: Team Formation complete

  • Donor given team member names, photos, experience and qualifications
  • Team meetings scheduled; initial team member tasks assigned

 
Day 35: Team weekend retreat, schedules permitting, or on campus meeting

  • Overview of scholarship, best practices and best practioners in identified goals arena
  • Tasks identified for translating Goals Framework into Strategic Philanthropy Report
  • Specific tasks assigned to team members

 
Day 49: Team members submit completed task assignments to UF CAIRES

 
Day 54: Synthesis Document submitted by UF CAIRES to team members

  • CAIRES Director meets with donor (if available) to discuss Synthesis Document

 
Day 56: Second team meeting (on campus)

  • Discussion of Synthesis Document and donor response (if available)
  • Areas in need of further development
  • Specific tasks assigned to team members

 
Day 66:  Team members submit completed task assignments to UF CAIRES

 
Day 70: First draft of Strategic Philanthropy Report circulated to team

 
Day 77: Team member comments and revisions to Strategic Philanthropy Report due

 
Day 84:  Second draft of Strategic Philanthropy Report circulated to team

 
Day 91: Team member comments and revisions to Strategic Philanthropy Report due

  • Team members receive $650 honoraria with expectation that each has devoted a minimum of 12 hours towards report development

 
Day 100: Strategic Philanthropy Report provided to donor

  • Strategic Philanthropy Report components include:
    • State of the field: relevant scholarship, best practices and best practioners
    • UF and beyond: philanthropic investment opportunites at UF (academic) and in local community/nation/world (practice)
    • Leveraging investments: how to grow donor’s impact via matching funds and resources
    • Scaling investments and impact: options and opportunities for narrowing and broadening scope of projects
    • Prelimnary budget and time frames
  • Meeting set up at donor’s convenience to discuss Project Implementation phase

 

Project Implementation: The Next 100 days

  • UF Foundations works with donor to draft and sign Philanthopic Investment document
  • UF CAIRES develops project implementation final budget
  • Letters of commitment and support secured from all contributing faculty, university administrators, non-profit organizations and government agencies
  • Strategic Philanthropy Project initiated
